Born in Bendigo in 1933, Arthur Hamblin, grew up on a farm as one of nine children. He began painting at the age of sixteen and became a full time professional artist in the 1960s. Australian country life, stockmen, cattle, horses, camelsand bird life are his subjects. One of the highlights of Arthur's long and successful career as an artist was an invitation from The Northern Territory Government Bicentennial Committee to join ‘The Last Great Cattle Drive’ as its artist in residence. “Twelve hundred head of bullock were driven from Newcastle Waters in the Northern Territory to Longreach in Western Queensland - a distance of 2,000 kilometers. The bullocks were sold in Longreach and the proceeds donated to "The Stockman’s Hall of Fame,” Arthur explained. “Twelve of the paintings which resulted from this trek are permanently displayed in the offices of The Northern Territory Government. The rest of the paintings were sold in an exhibition come auction which was a complete sell-out. “I owe my success as an artist to the colourful characters I have met on my travels throughout outback Australia and the experiences I have shared with them,” he told us. “Arthur's paintings capture the heat, colours and the vastness of the outback. Viewers claim they can feel the searing heat of the sun and taste the thick, dry dust when they look at his paintings,”
Exhibitions of his work have been held in most capital cities in Australia & many country cities & towns, Also, overseas in Japan, U.S.A, UK, U.A.E, Turkey and India. Arthur has won a number of prizes and awards in Australia and has been commissioned to paint many paintings for Government Depts., galleries, private and corporate clients worldwide. His paintings and limited edition prints are available through his galleries and selected outlets.
